What? You don't love it?

And now I am a victim of my own success. You will never guess my surprise and momentary horror to find that while achieving my insignificant "Fifteen Minutes" that all reviews were not to be complimentary and some a rude reality check.

Before explaining that further, I have a confession to make. I haven't always embraced my bizarre and yet quirky dark side. I was one of "those" women. You've seen their blogs, filled with adorable cottages, darling crafts, comforting collectibles, cutesy kitsch and garnished with a healthy sprinkling of pink and aqua glitter. A few years ago I thought I could never get enough of the anthropomorphic salt shakers, faded floral pillows and the sweetly adorable. Truthfully I still love all that too. But while surfing the web I came across those who love Halloween as much as me, and blogs who embrace an affection for nature, some who like the things that are just a little different, but still amazing and awesome, you will find these blogs linked on my sidebar. I thought that TotusMel said it beautifully when she said:

"All the cute and the precious have been found. All the kitties and puppies have homes. The candy colored, the eco-friendly, the hipsters of the handmade are all duly covered elsewhere. Here I will find the slightly odd, the darkly beautiful, the elegant and steamy pieces of goodness. I am very particular in my tastes and though I promise you that I will share nothing but the most intriguing of my discoveries, you may not always like them. I must also confess that I have no real artistic nor fashion background to base my finds upon. These are simply discoveries dug up from the depths of etsy or perhaps elsewhere, brushed off and presented for your approval."

That is my thinking on the matter exactly. Cute has been done and done well. The things I set out to create were a little creepy and I wasn't reaching for beautiful, classy or cute either. So to find myself the topic of a post on the Ugly Things for Sale blog should really come as no shock. Guess I was just momentarily surprised that there was such a blog. But you can find my octopus chandelier right there next to the steaming pile of poo and the uterus earrings. It's all good though. There are those of us who create ugly and those of us who write about ugly.

The thoughtlessness, bitterness, and just plain meaness I occasionaly stumble upon on the web never ceases to amaze me. First of all, I will concede that there are some ugly things on that blog. However, your truly artistic, hand crafted and hand sculpted chandelier in no way deserves to be lumped in with them. But that is beside the point.
We've all seen some things for sale on Etsy and other sites that are of questionable taste, are poorly and sloppily executed, or have a "wtf is he/she thinking?" price tag, but most of us move on, minding our own business. To each his own, I always say. Apparently, the pearl of wisdom, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all," was not passed on to this particular blogger (and numerous others) by her mother. Knowing the courage it takes to put yourself and your creative endeavors out for public view, I would never dream of publicly humiliating and criticizing someone's handmade work (however poorly made or ugly in my opinion).
This blogger, and all the others like her, must be very unhappy, angry people. Personally, I have so many creative pursuits, next-big-ideas, irons in the fire, family outings, culinary experiments, etc keeping me busy, that I wouldn't have time to spout such ugliness on the web, even if I wanted to. Perhaps the faceless writer of "Ugly Things for Sale", hiding behind the anonimity of the internet, should pour her energy into actually creating something, instead of attacking the creations of others, who she is obviously far superior to.
Just remember that she'll still be living her sad, angry, not very creative life while you're spending the profits from the sale of that kick ass chandelier. :)
Hugs and kisses to you, my friend. Keep on bringing the awesome.

I love the ugly things for sale blog !!! Don't know if I would want any of that stuff, but it tickles me to think someone does.

Oh, and basically I don't want any "stuff." I cleansed my life and home just a little over 2 years ago. It's a real struggle not to fill up the empty places, but I do love the simplicity.

Thanks for sharing!

I love the kraken! I would love him better in hot pink, but that's just my current craze.
